Recommended Websites Common Car Seat Mistakes 1. More often than not, people are too lazy to read the manual. It’s fantastic how many problems can be prevented by simply consulting the instructions. 2. Infants must be placed in a convertible car seat until they are 1 year old and twenty pounds. Children who reach twenty pounds before their first birthday still need to face backwards and can be moved into a rear facing convertible car seat. Smaller infants who don't reach 20 pounds until after their first birthday should also continue to face backwards. 3. Leaving the belts too loose is another common car seat mistake most drivers commit all the time. Installing a car seat is a two-person job, with one of you pressing the seat down with a knee while your partner adjusts the seat belt. If the seat moves more than an inch in any direction, tighten it more. 4. Having harness straps too loose or in the wrong position and also the harness chest clip is wrong. Bear in mind that there must only be enough room for one finger between the harness strap and your child’s collarbone. 5. Attaching the tether strap must be done properly. The tether minimizes the forward force on your child’s head in a collision so it’s a huge help. Automotive Sites: |
